The U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, called upon us to take over and construct the most complex features of the original $25,000,000 (1994) contract for the Fullerton Canal due to the prime contractor's lack of progress. Work entailed a concrete canal structure and deep RCP siphons involving extensive dewatering of difficult-to-dewater silty materials. Siphon pipes ranged from 48" to 72" in diameter and totaled approximately 5000 LF. The owner supplied material for siphons.
Remove existing riprap protection from the canal prism, existing concrete lining, and existing fencing. Reshape approximately 2 miles of canal prism for placement of membrane lining on the sides and bottom of canal. Construct berm drains and berm drain inlets on O&M roads. Furnish and place approximately 35,000 SY of exposed membrane lining and 20,000 SY of covered membrane lining. Miscellaneous work included fencing, animal escapes, and area reclamation.
Clear and prep lake shoreline. Haul and place 20,000 cy of riprap bedding. Selectively place 6,500 cy of 24" and 36" riprap. Install perforated pipe drainage system. Riprap and bedding material were supplied by the Government.
